ABOUT SURFING:  Surfing is about catching ocean waves and riding on a surfboard, Surfing is fun and exciting, and you don’t need big waves when learning. In Hawaii many people prefer to use a long board, which also happens to be stable and easy to stand on. On the south shore we have some of the best longboard waves on the island and we can surf almost 365 days a year. Maui has many different surf breaks, that range from the very easy all the way up to some of the biggest surfing waves in the world.

SURF CAMPS: Our 3day kids surf camps run through summer Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday each week. Ages 5-14 can participate, some swimming skills are essential. We supply the surfboards, shoes, lycra shirts, and a snack. Kids learn about the ocean, and how to ride safely.
WHERE TO SURF: There are many different locations around the islands to Surf. each one offers different conditions. Please be careful when choosing where to Surf because some places are off limits, or have advanced conditions. Also keep in mind that we live on a small island, and you could get stranded at sea. Beware of offshore winds, and never surf farther away from shore than you can swim. It is always best to have a local surfer or surfing instructor show you a surf break for the first time. There is a lot of local knowledge about each location that can be shared in a lesson or an orientation session. Click here to book an intermediate surfing lesson or surfari.
SURF SAFE: Always get a lesson before attempting any new water sport. Learn from a local instructor who will show you how to properly use the equipment, handle the conditions, and avoid the hazards. To be safe we recommend that you; surf with a buddy, avoid crowds, beware of offshore winds, and never surf farther away from shore than you can swim back in.

SURF GEAR: Surf boards are smaller than SUP boards for maneuverability stability. There is different size boards for each of the surf styles, and for the different conditions. The choice of board can make your day or ruin your session. Generally bigger people will want bigger boards, and bigger waves need smaller boards. At Surf Club we have a selection of gear available, and our staff can help you choose the best gear for your ride style, body size and the conditions. Go to our gear rental page for more information.
SURF TRANSPORT: Managing your gear on land can be as important as managing it safely on the water. Take care when picking up and carrying surfboards and always use good lifting skills (use your legs to lift not your back), better yet to have your buddy help you carry your board. Be careful in the wind as they can catch the wind and blow around. Take care crossing streets in traffic, and be especially careful when loading them onto your car. Do not tie down any boards with rope, it damages the board, use a proper flat webbing tie-down strap. Surfing equipment must be securely tied onto vehicles, otherwise boards might fly away and cause an accident.
SURFING RULES: Surfing Rules are the “rules of the road” that help us to avoid accidents on the water, they are a combination of practical knowledge and common sense. Always follow these surfing rules when surfing and remember to surf with aloha. For more information about surfing rules go to our Surfing rules page by clicking on the picture on the right.

SURF REPORT: The surf report is important way to find out about surfing conditions. Sometimes you get to the beach only to find totally flat conditions with no waves, and sometimes the waves will be way to big to handle. you should try to know the conditions before you go to the beach. For information on the local surfing conditions, go to the Maui Surf Report page, or click on the link below.
